The chair of the Board of Trustees of Eastern Nazarene College announced the formation of a presidential search committee.
During the exploratory period of the proposed Trevecca-ENC merger, Dr. Boone was expected to become president of both institutions. Trevecca’s accrediting agency permitted Dr. Boone to hold this position of dual presidency on the condition of a merger. After the merger was cancelled, Dr. Boone was no longer permitted to serve as president-elect of ENC. ENC now needs a president.
The search committee consists of seventeen members: the Board of Trustees Chair Russ Long, Lay Board Member Jill Dean, ENC Professors Dr. Bill McCoy and Dr. Phil LaFountain, Vice President for Student Development & Retention and Dean of Students Jeff Kirksey (ENC Administrative representative), and SGA President Monica Ly.
The committee’s goal is “to provide students and faculty with periodic updates, delivered by Russ Long, [and] to utilize its representative voices to help find the ideal President for the college’s future,” says Kirksey.
According to Kirksey, the search committee is looking for the following traits in the presidential candidates they are considering:
- exemplary Christian leadership
- dedication to the college’s mission
- innovative spirit
- knowledgeable in the fields of finance and higher education
- transparency with both students and faculty
- accessibility to both students and faculty
Though the committee has its own list of desirable traits, they are receptive to student input on the matter. Students are advised to contact anyone on the board if they have any additional traits that they want to see in the next president. The search committee is open to receiving nominees for the position from students.
The Board of Trustees of ENC has also formed an Opportunity Task Force. According to an email from Dr. Timothy Wooster to the entire ENC community, the purpose of the task force is to solicit “any and all ideas that might contribute to ENC thriving and flourishing in the future. All potential opportunities and possibilities will be seriously considered and will help inform the work of the Presidential Search Committee.” Ideas may be sent to ENC Trustee Dick Pritchard at email@example.com.
