Four people were arrested in Portugal and Spain in several operations to combat international drug trafficking, which led to the seizure of enough cocaine for 108,000 individual doses, in one of which it was hidden in candy.
In a note released this Wednesday, the Judiciary Police (PJ) explains that the arrests – two on national territory, in the act, and two in Madrid, in compliance with European arrest warrants – took place in various operations to combat international drug trafficking.
The detainees are all foreigners and aged between 22 and 73 years old.
According to the PJ, one of the detainees traveled to Portugal from a South American country, transporting the drug hidden in various objects, including candy, electrical transformers, books and safes.
Another carried the drug inside his body, having arrived in Lisbon from an African country.
Three of the accused were in preventive detention, while the fourth is still awaiting the application of a precautionary measure by the competent judicial authority.
The operations resulted from three distinct investigations, two of which were carried out by the 1st section of the Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DIAP) in Lisbon and one by the DIAP in Almada.
Investigations continue with a view to identifying other elements involved in these international drug trafficking networks, adds the PJ.
