Mexico City, October 20 (However).- As incredible as it may seem, 5 years have passed since we first saw Ghost of Tsushimathe first title in the franchise that came from Sucker Puncha – the studio behind franchises like Sly Cooper or inFAMOUS. Yes ok Ghost of Yōtei It is not a direct sequel to Ghost of Tsushima-. Yes, it is an evolution of the franchise in all aspects, not only at a narrative level, but also in gameplay, improving everything learned in its predecessor.
History
Just like Ghost of Tsushimathe title is set in ancient Japan, specifically in 1603 on the island of Ezo, today known as Hokkaido, Japan. The story of Ghost of Yōtei It takes place 300 years after the events of Gnost of Tsushima, and takes family and revenge as its main theme, somewhat similar to its predecessor, however, with a different narrative.
We will take the role of Atsu, the protagonist of the game and how, from a very young age, she lost her family at the hands of a group of bandits known as the six Yōtei, led by Lord Nariaki Saito, a former friend of Atsu’s family and leader of the Saito clan, who has led a life of corruption and oppression terrorizing the island of Ezo and its inhabitants. Having survived the attack by the six Yōtei, he survived off the island of Ezo and after several years has returned to avenge his family.
The title is a journey through the present and past not only of what we know at the beginning as the main conflict, but of how the relationship between his family, his traditions and the talent in his father’s blacksmith shop was forged, as well as the past of Lord Nariaki Saito and the relationship he had with his family, the title allows us to explore different areas full of memories that give us a greater context to Atsu’s childhood.
And of course, if that were not enough, as a main mission, the game also offers us different secondary missions that we can explore throughout the game, from a character that we meet along the way asking for help or requiring a favor, to all the towns that we can explore that will help us on our journey by exchanging favors for rewards.
We can defeat bandits who are wanted in the area, save people who are being attacked along the way or simply defeat the six Yōtei, as our main mission to achieve our family’s revenge.
Gameplay and graphic level
At a gameplay level, the title maintains the foundations of its first installment with improved gameplay, maintaining combat postures depending on what type of enemy is attacked, but now it feels much more fluid, precise and with a large number of weapons that we can use at short, medium or long distance. In addition, we have our skill tree back, which allows us to learn many more techniques, improve our combos and the different combat styles we have.
We have an incredible exploration that takes us to see a detailed landscape in every corner we visit, and we can really explore even the most unthinkable places in the game, get into bushes, mountains and discover a large number of secrets that will help our progression.
On a graphical level, the game looks simply impeccable, the work done by the studio for this second installment is impressive and the landscapes that the game gives us are at the level of a new generation title, taking advantage of the full potential of the PlayStation 5.
Ghost of Yōtei It is more and better than its predecessor – which set the bar very high -, this new adventure on a visual, narrative and gameplay level takes what was done with its predecessor and improves it on a large scale.
