Ecuador will increase from 30% to 50% import tariffs coming from Colombiaafter considering that the measures implemented by Bogotá to combat the racketeering on the border they share were not concrete or effective, the above was reported by the Ministry of Production and Foreign Trade.
The trade war between these two nations was started by the Ecuadorian president, Daniel Noboa, considered a critic of the Colombian government and Washington’s allyso both mutually applied 30% tariffs on various products.

In a statement, the Ministry reported that the new rate will apply from March 1.
“This decision responds to criteria of national security, to strengthen co-responsibility in a task that must be joint: facing the presence of drug trafficking on the borderthey added.
For his part, the Ecuadorian minister of Production and Foreign Trade, Luis Jaramillopointed out that his country “has cut off dialogue” with Colombia, not receiving a “favorable response” to the request for greater border control.
“There cannot be sustainable trade if there is no border control and security,” Jaramillo told the Ecuavisa channel.

Both countries established conditions to continue the rapprochements. Quito asked Bogotá eradicate coca crops and the illegal mining on the border, in addition to lifting the suspension of the sale of electricity.
Colombia asked Ecuador to withdraw the tariffs.
In their border of about 600 km they operate Colombian guerrillas and organizations from both countries dedicated to drug trafficking, weapons trafficking and illegal mining.
