O rapper English Ghetts was sentenced to 12 years in prison this Tuesday, March 3, for killing a 20-year-old Nepali student following a hit-and-run in Ilford, northeast of London, United Kingdom.
The musician, whose real name is Justin Clarke-Samuel, was also banned from driving for 17 years.
The collision was recorded in October 2025 when Ghetts, 41, did not stop his BMW in time to avoid a collision with Yubin Tamang, who ended up dying from his injuries two days after the accident.
A spokesman for the deceased victim’s parents said at the trial that it had been taken from him “too soon”. “He came to the UK to study and build a better life for himself and his family. Justin Clarke-Samuel stole our future. We are relieved to have pleaded guilty and to have been arrested, but we can never forgive him for what he did,” he said on behalf of his family.
The evidence demonstrated that the rapper he was driving his BMW M5 at 119 kilometers per hour in an area where driving was only allowed at 48 km/h when he ran over the student, who was crossing the street at 11:33 pm on October 18. The court also proved that Ghetts did not provide adequate assistance at the scene of the accident.
The judge told the defendant that video surveillance camera footage showed a “quite frightening series of incidents” leading up to the fatal accident.

He was arrested a few hours later and the BMW was found parked near his home, with visible damage including a broken windshield, marks on the hood, damage to the front bumper and a rear-view mirror.
