BUENOS AIRES.- The government of Argentina declared to Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) as a terrorist organization, replicating the measure taken by USA y Canada in 2024.
As announced by the Office of the President, this declaration occurs in response to the international commitments assumed by the country “in matters of terrorism and financing”, as well as in compliance with current national regulations.
“The National Government ordered the incorporation of the CJNG to the Public Registry of Persons and Entities linked to Acts of Terrorism and their Financing (REPET), dependent on the Ministry of Justice”says the bulletin.
To date, the presence of the CJNG has been registered in more than 60 countries, including Argentina.

According to the Argentine government statement, the decision to designate the CJNG as a terrorist organization is based “on official reports that prove illicit activities of a transnational nature, as well as links with other organizations.”
With the registration of the Mexican cartel in REPET, the country can now apply financial sanctions and operational restrictions to limit the structure of the cartel.
It also seeks to protect the financial system of the Argentine country, so that it does not use funds for illicit purposes.
This is a measure similar to that applied by the US Department of the Treasury, which is implemented through the Office of Foreign Assets Control.
The designation “strengthens international cooperation in matters of security and justice, in close coordination with those countries that have already designated the Jalisco Cartel as a terrorist organization.”
This is the first case in which a Latin American country adopts a measure of this nature against a Mexican cartelsince previously only the United States and Canada implemented such a designation.
