Pope Leo XIV appointed the archbishop Paolo Rudelli as the new person in charge of General Affairs of the Vatican Secretariat of State, a position equivalent to that of a foreign minister in other countries, replacing the archbishop Edgar Pena Parrawho left office after his new appointment as apostolic nuncio to Italy and the Republic of San Marino
A native of Bergamo, Rudelli, 55, was nuncio in Colombia before receiving his new assignment. After learning of his new assignment, the archbishop expressed:
“The call of the Holy Father Leo to collaborate closely in the exercise of his supreme mission is a gesture of undeserved trustwhich deeply honors me.”

Regarding the appointment of Edgar Pena Parrahe replaced the Bosnian archbishop Petar Rajičwho until yesterday was apostolic nuncio, and on March 30 took over as director of the Prefecture of the Papal Householdassigned by Pope Leo.
