A Russian drone attack targeted the Ukrainian port of Izmail, on the Danube, during the night from Thursday to Friday. The assault damaged port and railway infrastructure without causing any injuries.

A Russian drone attack on the night of Thursday to Friday damaged the port infrastructure of Izmail, the largest Ukrainian port on the Danube, while a drone strayed into Romanian territory, Ukrainian and Romanian authorities said on Friday.

Attacks for several days

This port is located at the southwestern tip of Ukraine, on the border with Romania. With the conflict against Russia, it became an important logistics area, frequently bombed by Russian forces. The attack caused fires, which were quickly brought under control by emergency services.

Administrative and production buildings, as well as railway infrastructure, were damaged, said the Ukrainian Ministry of Community and Territorial Development. “Attacks against port infrastructure in the region have continued for several days”indicated the ministry on Telegram, specifying that they caused no injuries.

Since 6 p.m. Thursday (3:00 p.m. GMT), Russia has launched a ballistic missile and 172 drones at Ukraine, according to the Ukrainian Air Force. The country’s air defense units shot down or neutralized 147 drones, but the missile and 20 drones hit eight targets, she added.

The governor of the Odessa region said at least six residential buildings were hit. The Romanian Defense Ministry said its radar systems had detected a drone that violated its national airspace during the Russian night attack on Ukraine.
