United Way of Central New York Names Carrie Large New President, CEO

United Way of Central New York’s board of directors has named Carrie Large as the organization’s new president and chief executive officer, effective February 2, 2026.

Large, a seasoned nonprofit leader with a deep commitment to the downtown New York community, will succeed Nancy Kern Eaton, who retired Dec. 31 after a distinguished career. During Eaton’s tenure, the organization celebrated its 100th birthday.

Large joins United Way of Central New York after her successful tenure as executive director of Friends of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo. Here, she was involved in driving strategic growth, strengthening community engagement and leading the organization through major capital improvements.

“It is an incredible honor to join United Way of Central New York, an organization that is at the very heart of our community’s support system,” said Carrie Large. “I have spent my career working in the local nonprofit environment and have seen firsthand the transformative power of collaboration. I look forward to working with our dedicated staff, volunteers and partners to build a downtown New York where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.”

Prior to her work at the zoo, Large spent nearly two decades in leadership roles at ACR Health, where she honed her expertise in operational management, fundraising and community advocacy.

Large holds a degree from SUNY Brockport and has lived in the Syracuse area for more than 20 years. She is widely recognized for her collaborative leadership style and ability to build diverse coalitions to address complex community challenges.

“Carrie Large is the visionary leader we need to lead United Way of Central New York,” said Kerry Tarolli, board chairman. “Carrie’s proven operational excellence and authentic passion for our community make her uniquely qualified to address the evolving needs of our neighbors.”
