In Barcelona, Spain, the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, proposed during the IV Summit in Defense of Democracy, two actions in favor of peace, one of which was to allocate 10 percent of world spending on weapons to promote a global program that allows millions of hectares to be reforested each year, and two a declaration against military intervention in Cuba.
“I want to propose a concrete action that I proposed at the G20, simple, a proposal that is based on a new vision of the United Nations: Allocate 10 percent of global spending on weapons, which amounts to billions of dollars, to promote a global program that allows millions of people to reforest millions of hectares each year. Instead of sowing war, let’s sow peace, let’s sow life. I want to propose a declaration against military intervention in Cuba; that dialogue and peace prevail.”
In her speech, the Head of the Federal Executive also requested that the next venue for the Summit in Defense of Democracy be Mexico, to discuss an economy focused on well-being and a democracy that responds to the true needs of the people.
“Democracy means elevating love above hate; cultivating generosity instead of greed; fraternity above war. Democracy means that life cannot be bought, nor can freedom or the dignity of people. Democracy means that only respect for diversity and love for others will make it possible to build a world where everyone, all peoples, all languages, all cultures, all nations, can be built. I am a woman of peace and I represent a nation that loves freedom, justice, fraternity and that understands as democracy what the great Benito Juárez would say: ‘With the people, everything; without the people, nothing. With the people, everything; without the people, nothing’,” he said at the Fira Barcelona Gran Via venue, in Spain.
Sheinbaum Pardo highlighted that he attended the IV Summit in Defense of Democracy on behalf of a hard-working, creative and fighting people, with an ancient history that recognizes its origin in the great native cultures that were silenced, enslaved and plundered, but never defeated or conquered.
He added that, in the face of a world wounded by war and inequality, Mexico contributes to the people of the world, as a symbol of hope, constitutional principles in matters of foreign policy, highlighting: Respect for the self-determination of peoples, non-intervention, the peaceful resolution of disputes, the rejection of the use of force, the legal equality of states, the need for international cooperation for development, respect for human rights and the permanent struggle for peace.
