Thursday April 16, in Gif-sur-Yvette, young student and handball hopeful Samuel Coriat was hit near his campus by a bus. As he was leaving the library of his Paris-Saclay university, he was about to cross the bus lane, when he was fatally struck by the vehicle according to information relayed by the Parisian. After a quick emergency intervention, the young athlete did not survive.

In a press release relayed by the club, PSG Handball expressed its deep emotion. The club evokes “great sadness” after the announcement of the death of this promising athlete, trained and passed through the Parisian squad. “This is extremely difficult news for the entire club to learn,” indicates the sports management, who also emphasizes that “PSG Handball sends all its thoughts to its family and loved ones.”

Indeed, the 21-year-old young man had worn the club’s colors from 2014 to 2022 “until his senior years”. The press release also explains that he was very involved in the club, in particular by refereeing or as an educator among young people.

During an engineering course in a specialized program for national and international athletes and artists, Samuel Coriat was described as a young man “appreciated by all”. He was a “brilliant student” and a “promising sportsman”. Flowers were laid in his honor, while his comrades, deeply impacted by the situation, gathered at the scene of the accident. The mayor of the town, Yann Cauchetier, speaks of an “absolute tragedy”.
