CHINA has warned it will retaliate with its own “countermeasures” after Donald Trump hit the country with extra 100 per cent tariffs – in the latest escalation of the tit-for-tat trade war.

The US president played down simmering tensions between the two nations – vowing everything “will be fine” in the face of Beijing’s latest threats.

China branded the US President’s latest measure as a “typical example of US double standards” – and declared it would not be afraid to hit back.

But in response to Beijings’s latest fearmongering, the Don said on Truth Social: “Don’t worry about China, it will all be fine!

“Highly respected President Xi just had a bad moment. He doesn’t want Depression for his country, and neither do I.”

He added: “The U.S.A. wants to help China, not hurt it!!!”

On his way to Israel on Sunday, Trump also told reporters: “I think we’re going to be fine with China.”

And he said of Xi Jinping: “He’s a very tough man he’s a very smart man, he’s a great leader for their country, and I have a great relationship with him – I think we’ll get it set.”

Trump slapped eyewatering tariffs on Xi’s nation after the Chinese government announced expansive rare earth export controls.

The outraged Don accused the country of taking an “extraordinarily aggressive position” on trade, and branded Beijing‘s decision a “moral disgrace”.

The American leader said he would also impose his own export controls on any critical software heading to China.

The Don said: “Starting November 1st, 2025 (or sooner, depending on any further actions or changes taken by China), the United States of America will impose a Tariff of 100% on China.”

He added: “Also on November 1st, we will impose Export Controls on any and all critical software.”

It comes after China declared their dramatic new measures on Thursday – which tighten export controls on rare earths and other critical materials needed in advanced tech.

Xi’s nation controls about 70 per cent of the global rare earth mineral supply.

But crucially, Beijing currently oversees 90 per cent of rare earth processing – giving China massive leverage over the high-tech supply chain.

These key components go into everyday tech items like solar panels to smartphones, as well as advanced devices such as missile systems and night vision goggles.

Trump’s bombshell announcement on Friday spooked the marketswith the S&P 500 share index closing down 2.7 per cent – marking its steepest fall since April.

His comments also derailed the prospect of a meeting with Xi in South Koreaexpected to take place during a summit later this month.

But the US president then rowed back on his social media post, by telling reporters he was still open to meeting China’s leader.
