At least 42 people have died and 49 have been injured in a bus accident occurred in the province of Limpopo, in northern South Africa, as reported by authorities on Monday.
The bus, which transported citizens of Malawi and Zimbabwe returning to their countries from the Eastern Cape province, was traveling on a steep road when lost control, rolled down an embankment and landed on the roof this Sunday night outside the city of Louis Trichardt, said the Highway Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC).
According to the Department (Ministry) of Transport, The deceased are 35 adults (18 women and 17 men) and seven minors.

“Another 49 people were transferred to various hospitals in Louis Trichardt (…). The exact cause of the accident has not been determined and investigations continue.“said RTMC spokesperson Simon Zwane, quoted by local media.
In a statement, the president of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosalamented that “this incident is a tragedy for South Africa and for our sister states of Zimbabwe and Malawi.”
“This sadness is compounded by the fact that this incident took place during our annual Transport Month, in which we place special importance on road safety,” Ramaphosa added.
The head of the Limpopo provincial government, Phophi Ramathuba, who plans to visit the scene of the accident, sent her condolences to the families of the victims.
“This is a heartbreaking tragedy. “The loss of so many lives in a single incident is indescribable,” Ramathuba added.
