Donald Trump’s Government authorized the CIA to carry out covert actions in Venezuela.
Mexico City, October 15 (However).- The President of the USA, Donald Trumpconfirmed this Wednesday that it authorized the Central Intelligence Agency (CIAfor its acronym in English) perform covert operations in Venezuelain a new escalation of tensions with the Nation led by Nicolas Maduro and after various military operations in the Caribbean against alleged drug traffickers of said country.
“I authorized the CIA to enter Venezuela for two reasons: first, they emptied their prisons and sent criminals to us… The other thing is drugs. Many drugs come by sea. But now we are going to focus on land,” Trump said.
Yesterday, the Republican president announced the most recent lethal military attack against a vessel allegedly linked to drug trafficking and terrorism, in international waters, off the coast of Venezuela. Now, Trump clarified that he plans to intervene in the territory, as US media had previously reported.

According to The New Yotk Times, The agency could take covert actions against Maduro or his government unilaterally or in conjunction with a broader military operation. “It is not known if the CIA is planning any operation in Venezuela or if the authorizations are intended as a contingency measure,” the newspaper said.
Likewise, the American media confirmed that there are currently 10,000 American soldiers in the region, most of them in bases in Puerto Rico, but also a group of marines on amphibious assault ships. “In total, the Navy has eight surface warships and one submarine in the Caribbean,” he explained.
From Caracas, the Venezuelan Minister of Defense, Vladimir Padrino, yesterday accused Washington of using false pretexts to justify an intervention. “We have to prepare ourselves because the irrationality with which the American empire operates is not normal. It is anti-political, anti-human, warmongering, rude and vulgar,” he declared in a televised event.
US lawmakers, both Democrats and Republicans, have expressed concern about the lack of transparency about US military operations. While some Republicans demand more information about the legal justification, Democrats have warned that the attacks could violate national and international laws. Last week, the Senate voted on a resolution to limit these actions without express authorization from Congress, but it failed to be approved.
In a message sent to Congress, the Trump administration said that the United States is in “a non-international armed conflict” with these organizations, and that operations are carried out under the laws of war.
In the last month, the Venezuelan government has insisted that Trump’s operations are not intended to stop drug trafficking, but rather to pressure for regime change. For this reason, it has deployed troops and trained thousands of citizens in popular areas for possible territorial defense.
