Iran said on Friday that previous Security Council restrictions will be canceled tomorrow, stressing that its sovereign rights are non-negotiable.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced that “all previous restrictions imposed by the Security Council on Iran will be canceled tomorrow.” He stressed that his country will remain committed to its rights and obligations within the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
In the same context, Araqchi clarified that Tehran’s cooperation with the IAEA will take place only within the framework of the comprehensive safeguards agreement and Iranian law, and stressed that Iran’s sovereign rights are “non-negotiable and not subject to any political pressure.”
Araqchi had previously expressed his country’s readiness to negotiate with the Americans if Tehran received a “reasonable, balanced and fair proposal.”
Araqchi stressed that Tehran would not give up “its right to enrich uranium,” but said it could take measures to build confidence regarding “the peaceful nature of its nuclear program.”
He added, “Of course, this is conditional on the other side taking steps to build confidence, including lifting part of the sanctions,” noting that Tehran and Washington are exchanging messages through intermediaries.
The United States, its European allies, and Israel accuse Tehran of using its nuclear program to hide its efforts to develop the ability to produce nuclear weapons, but Iran says its nuclear program is intended for peaceful purposes only.
