A 15-minute “suite” summarizing 600 pages of “La Regenta” by Clarin

On October 24, 2023, the opera was performed at Las Naves de El Español Regent de Marisa Manchado. OCNE requested a composer AND suite orchestral based on this lyrical score who will perform in the National Auditorium from now until Sunday, April 12.

We can appreciate the moment that is missing follows the score of Clarín’s novel with an operatic tradition and uses in this relationship a diverse range of motifs about calmness, ignorance and bad intention, in which the gallant figure of Ana Ozores stands out.

Manched writing, always very careful, requires a very clear cadence and usually logos, within a very free writing, very attractive and intentional passages.

The composer does not neglect the importance of the past when she says: “Every composition is the result of a personal and solitary search, but also the music that nourished, loves, or loved the composer“.

On these foundations, Manchado built, starting with Amelie Valcárcel’s book, a score that It was a synthesis of 600 pages of Clarin’s original. The summary will be even more dramatic, as the plot must concentrate with its main motifs into a symphonic total of 15 minutes.

Through this work we can find another very distinctive and equally interesting: not very often Violin Concerto Korngold, clear construction, hard melodic development and elegant orchestration, which gives the violinist the opportunity, in this case Korean Bomsori Kimclarify and extract the strange matrix that emerges from the score.

The session ends with effervescent and electric Symphony No. 6 de Shostakovicha musical expression inspired by the rhetoric of other compositions based on the same hand.

At the head of all will be agile accurate delivery by Portuguese Nuno Coelho.
