Gijón is preparing for a new immersion in the literary vanguard. From March 12 to 21, 2026, el Poex Festival will celebrate its seventh edition and establish itself as a museum of poetic languages, which from 2020 goes beyond the traditional format of a book of poems, moving away from the plurality, integration and dynamism of poetry.
In this edition, the festival focuses on its identity as a heterogeneous event that does not take into account fashion, whether some schools are involved or not. This year’s vertebrate is presented under the following name Lost in translationfilmography guide from Sofia Coppola which serves to propose the translation of poetry as a necessary transit between two places.
The management of the festival invites us to think about the famous sentence of Robert Frost, who confirmed this poetry is exactly what we find in translation. Faced with this vision, Poex proposes to understand this process as a “realizable impossibility”, a paradox applicable to life, where everything from a certain point of view is a version or translation of reality.
The 2026 program stands out for its ambition and signature compromised by the gender balance among its participants, an aspect that is part of the idea of the festival. The most desperate characters will be found Miriam Reyesawarded the Premio Nacional de Poesía 2025, which will introduce him to the giant WITH on Sunday, March 15, on the terrace of the Centro de Cultura Antiguo Instituto (CCAI).
Importance of dialogue in Iberian languages focuses on Portuguese authors of the first level as Gonçalo M. Tavaresonly met him for one day Formentor Prize. The author presents . Also an anthology Nuno Judice, The concept of poetry and the next 50 years of poetrycommented Lauren Mendinueta.
The work of the translator as a central creative personality will be analyzed through different sections. The festival will also explore the “zones of traffic” between narrative and lyrical genres in a meeting that will bring together Marta Sanz and Manuel Vilas to talk about literature that, like them, turns from narrative to poetry and vice versa.
The spirit of breaking down barriers, poetry does not include cinema, music or theater as ornamental elements of the program, as well as forms of autonomous poetic expression. In this sense, the collaboration with the Sociedad Filarmónica de Gijón will allow you to enjoy Franz Schubert’s La Bella Molinera song cycle performed by tenor Luken Munguira and pianist Aurelio Viribay at the Teatro Jovellanos.
Theater will be present in the hands of the playwright Juan Mayorgawho will deliver his monologue on stage Big cacería. In the cinema area and in conjunction with FICX, the film will be screened A foreign song de Cesar Soutofollowed by an interview with the director.
City, incorporated
The festival’s compromise with education and the social tejido of the city is channeled through Poex classroom. This space includes stories of literary creation in the surrounding libraries with activities for elementary schools focused on creation Angel Gonzalez
Asymism is particularly notable for the length of translation it entails Aurora Luque at the LABoral Centro de Arte, where a personal method will be practiced on the texts of classical authors such as Sappho and Homer, demystifying the theme of the translator as a traitor to re-sign him as a collaborator.
Finally, closing the event on Saturday, March 21 promises to be a sensual hit with a concert Niño de Elchewith the name Song aboutwhere the artist will offer versions of poems by, among others, TS Eliot, John Donne and Ernest Cardenal.
Years after its foreign stage, the Poex festival reaffirms its intention to become a protagonist of cultural life in Gijón, tending to challenges inside institutions and motivating the public not to be satisfied with the usual poetic mechanisms to discover new and stimulating artistic stimuli.
