An expert explains why it is useless to add oil to pasta, to prevent it from sticking.

Bananas are one of the staple foods, not only because of their flavor, but because of their versatility. But what happens when we can’t eat them right away? With a simple trick, you can keep them fresh for several days; You just need a glass jar or an airtight container.

The effectiveness of this method is based on the glass jar creating a physical barrier and maintaining a suitable environment. This, added to storing it in a cold environment, allows the bananas to last up to 26 days or more without being damaged from a scientific and practical point of view.

It is a trick that combines several factors such as: storage in airtight glass jars, at controlled temperatures and in an appropriate atmosphere, which has a direct effect on delaying the ripening of the banana and prevents the oxidation that causes its deterioration.

A closed jar or container prevents the entry of air and excessive humidity, keeping the fruit in good condition.

How to store bananas so that they last 26 days?

This effective method has gone viral on social networks and, as we mentioned, it has scientific bases, you just need to follow certain instructions detailed below:

1.- Cut the peeled bananas into pieces.

2.- Store the bananas in airtight glass jars in the refrigerator (this step is key to keeping the bananas fresh and yellow even after 16 or more days).

3.- Make sure to keep them at a low temperature (around 12°C).

4.- Bananas should preferably be kept in the absence of direct light, it also helps reduce ripening and the appearance of black spots.

Light protection will help better control gases such as ethylene, which accelerator ripening and thus extend the shelf life of the banana.

These practices that have become popular as conservation tricks are supported by experts in preserving bananas using controlled atmospheres (low levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide) and storage in airtight containers, according to a study published by National University of Colombia.
