Jimena Blázquez Abascal leaves her position as director of the Andalusian Center for Contemporary Art (CAAC) for personal reasons, after two years at the head of the institution.
The Ministry of Culture and Sports will call a public competition to appoint his replacement, following the recommendations of the Document of Good Practices in Museums and Art Centers in Spain.
Councilor Patricia del Pozo has thanked her for her management, highlighting that during her time the CAAC strengthened its links with the Andalusian context and expanded its national and international projection.
Blázquez also leaves closed the programming of the Center for Contemporary Creation of Andalusia (C3A) in Córdoba and the planned expansion of the CAAC to the 15th Century Pavilion, whose opening is planned for 2026.
Among its main achievements, points out the Andalusian Ministry of Culture and Sports, include the digitization of the Andalusian public collection of contemporary art, the improvement of conservation conditions and the promotion of exhibitions with a territorial and international focus, with names such as Delcy Morelos, Kader Attia, Regina de Miguel or Miguel Benlloch.
In 2024, both centers registered 20% more visitors, exceeding 199,000 people in Seville and 42,000 in Córdoba, consolidating their presence as living cultural hubs in Andalusia.
Beyond her work in the institutional sphere, Jimena Blázquez Abascal has consolidated a unique model of patronage in Spain.
From the Montenmedio Contemporánea Foundation, created more than two decades ago in Vejer de la Frontera, it has promoted more than forty site-specific projects by international artists such as Marina Abramovic, Olafur Eliasson, Santiago Sierra, Sol LeWitt or Joana Vasconcelos, integrating art and nature in a continuous dialogue.
