The liver is a key organ for regulating hormones, losing weight and for proper functioning of the body. A diet rich in sugars, ultra-processed foods and carbohydrates can saturate this organ and prevent its functions. Nutrition and metabolism expert Magali Alvarenga explains what should be done to decongest it and three infusions that can be your allies in this process.

The expert details that although “everyone talks about the intestine, the colon and the microbiota, there is a key organ that almost no one considers, and that defines your energy, your hormones and even your mood: the liver.”

Alvarenga, a content creator specialized in weight loss, points out in a video on their networks that food is key to saturating the liver and prevents weight loss, causes fatigue or disorders. “If your liver is saturated, you cannot burn fat, you do not digest well and there is no way to balance your hormones. And how does it become saturated? With sugar, alcohol, medications, pesticides, stress, synthetic perfumes and even excess animal protein,” he explains.

How to purify the liver?

This saturation of the liver has a series of symptoms that include constant fatigue, bad mood or slow digestion. The answer to ending the symptoms is simple: purification.

The basics for purifying the liver, according to the specialist known as Nutrimaga on networks, are:

  • Hydrate yourself well: 40 ml of water per kilo of weight.
  • Add more green and bitter leaves to your dishes.

Both have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, highlights a published study by the Cuban Magazine of Medicinal Plants. In laboratory tests on animals, it was found that it could have a protective effect against the development of liver diseases, such as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Additionally, it reduces oxidative stress in the liver.
