One of the problems that Latino families with little boys face during the summer is what the younger ones can do during all that free time when they don’t have school. Teatro SEA, a non-profit organization dedicated to the arts and children’s education that is part of our Hispanic Federation, offers some options to entertain and educate girls and boys.
On Saturday, August 9, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, and as part of their annual summer festival Art for My PeopleTeatro SEA will present its Second Latiné Children’s Music Festival.
Admission will be free, and the festival will be outdoors in Lower Manhattan. More precisely on Suffolk Street, between Rivington and Delancey. There, in front of the Clemente Soto Vélez Centerwhere the SEA Theater and other Latin cultural institutions are based, children and their families will be able to enjoy an afternoon of good music and dance, and celebrate for the second consecutive year the various Latin cultures in a community atmosphere.
“The response to the first Latiné Children’s Music Festival was incredible,” says Dr. Manuel A. Morán, founder and artistic director of Teatro SEA. “This year we are very excited to present even more dynamic programming, with artists and young talents who celebrate our culture through music. We remain committed to offering accessible and joy-filled bilingual artistic experiences.”
In addition to attending musical and dance performances, the boys and girls will receive gifts and surprises, and will be able to participate in arts and crafts workshops, as well as various other activities.
The featured guest will be Lucy Kalantari, who will share the stage with a vibrant cast of artists and groups representative of Latin culture. Between them and them:
He Bombazo Dance Co Youth Ensemble., which will perform songs from the traditional Puerto Ricanbomba, with dance and percussion; the New York Mariachi Academywhich represents the new generation of mariachi; the young singer Simón Cifuentes, recent semi-finalist of The Voice Kids Colombia, and the bilingual children’s musical group of Teatro SEA, El Avión–The Airplane.
Before that, next Saturday, July 19, Teatro SEA will hold an evening of puppet theater, which is an artistic expression in which Manuel Morán has a prominent performance.
“We are delighted to be able to present a dynamic selection of puppeteers to celebrate the rich history of puppet theater in Lower Manhattan,” says the artistic director of Teatro SEA. “And we will do that in a setting that has welcomed and supported the puppetry community at large.”
That day, at 8 pm, among others, Anthony Selitto-Budney, A Buba Creation, Chinese Theater Works, Chris Palmieri, Jamee Lind & Alexis DeJoy, Lynn Jeffries & Paul Zaloom and Zlata Godunova will perform at Teatro SEA.
