WHY SPANISH?
EL ESPAÑOL is a newspaper that raises its voice when others hesitate, with rigorous and critical information, a space for those who choose the search for the truth.
In turbulent times, middle paths offer no refuge: they are quicksand. It’s like a relationship – conventional or not. Lukewarmness, far from protecting, condemns. And history has shown countless times how remaining paralyzed in that ni fu ni fa has led to devastating consequences.
A famous chapter that always fascinated me was that of that fraud in which the reputation of Marie Antoinette at the expense of some fakers who crudely marketed her name to sell a diamond necklace. Her husband, the faded, unsalted bread of Louis XVIinstead of reacting forcefully and unhesitatingly pointing out those responsible, opted for passive prudence.
He denounced the right thing, with his little French mouth, as if pronouncing the word “truc”, in an attempt so that silence could contain the storm. The queen ended up hopelessly dragged into the caricature of futility, which would end up condemning her to death.
But don’t get me sidetracked. What does this mean? That in troubled times, like the ones we live in -yesterday and today-, THE SPANISH It doesn’t stay in that limbo. Flee the lukewarmness that accompanies the faint-hearted and He raises his voice when reprehensible acts occur. He does not take refuge in the limbo of equidistance, but neither does he grab a flag with two hands, because he knows that these, sometimes, wrap so tightly or so poorly that they blind.
Therefore, one comes to this newspaper to get information, but also to belong to a club. There is a camaraderie among those who choose this option and take the step of subscribing: “Are you also from…?” It is not asked with the lightness of someone asking what series they are watching, but with the conviction of belonging to something that really represents you
From there, magic arises and conversations with an initiatory air between those who understand that true journalism does not consist of proving power right, but rather stripping it and questioning it to do better.
The same goes for the rest of the sections, including, of course, High. “You are more than a medium; you are a movement,” a senior executive dressed in a lavender pink suit even said at a work meeting. Of course, he joined in.
He understood that this project is not only – may the boss forgive me, here the “only” is indispensable – news, but also a spirit shared among those who choose independence and responsibility. Although, let’s not fool ourselves, it’s also for entertainment.
It’s like that friend who doesn’t beat around the bush, who takes you out of your comfort zone but you know that he tells you what others don’t say, and who at the same time knows how to laugh with you. In troubled waters, this is worth more than a diamond necklace.
