The whale was still alive when CRAM ECOMARE, based in Gafanha da Nazaré, received the alert, but a few minutes later, a new message indicated that it was already dead, as Andreia Pereira explains to DN.
Given the logistics involved, it was only on Wednesday, the 4th, that CRAM was able to act: it took samples and carried out a necropsy, which revealed signs that the whale was sick, something that was already suspected because it was quite thin.
