The Gaza Ministry of Health estimated this Saturday, October 11, that there are still at least 7,000 bodies of dead people under the rubble in the enclave, of which 3,600 were reported missing by their families.

According to the director of the Gaza Ministry of Health unit responsible for registering deaths, Zaher al-Waheidi, cited by the Spanish news agency EFE, it is estimated that the vast majority of these 3,600 people reported missing correspond to fatal victims whose bodies have not yet been recovered.

In addition to these people, al-Waheidi indicated that there is at least a similar number of dead who were not reported missing.

This is due, he explained, to the fact that the Israeli offensive in Gaza has provoked the death of entire families, leaving no one left to file complaints or register the disappearances.

According to figures provided by the Government of Gaza, more than 2,700 families in the Strip, with a total of more than 8,500 people, were erased from the civil registry and today there are no living members left.

Al-Waheidi added that 600 recovered bodies remain in the morgues of Gaza hospitals of the rubble and bombed streets of the Palestinian enclave that have not yet been identified.

With the ceasefire in force since Friday and the deployment of Israeli troops to a first line of withdrawal, Gaza rescue services are now focusing their efforts on recovering bodies in areas previously inaccessible due to the presence of the Israeli Army.
