Ambition and focus in the Portuguese National Team

When asked about ownership, Conceição appeared pragmatic and focused on performance on the field: “When a player is good, he’s good as a starter and he’s good as a starter. Of course I want to be a starter, but I have to demonstrate that on the field, helping my teammates and always giving my best for the team.”

Regarding the demanding weather conditions expected for the match, the winger considered that the challenge could be positive for the team: “It’s also good for us to test ourselves in these conditions. We want to show that, even with high temperatures, we can maintain our quality and concentration.” Regarding the expected atmosphere in the stands, traditionally intense in the Mexican team’s games, he showed confidence in the group’s experience: “The pressure of playing away, with very passionate fans, is part of that. We are used to playing at the highest level and that won’t be a problem for us.”

Cristiano Ronaldo’s absence was also addressed, with the winger recognizing the captain’s weight, but guaranteeing a collective response: “Cristiano is missed by any team in the world, for his goals, his leadership and the person he is. But we will make up for his absence with the team.”

Regarding the opponent, Conceição left clear praise for the structure and intensity of the Mexican team: “Mexico has tough players, with talent and great work capacity. The team is their strongest weapon. It’s up to us to figure out how to hurt this team and win the game.”

The player also highlighted the seriousness with which Portugal takes private matches: “There are no friendlies for us. We are always representing our country and we have to be very serious to defend our colors.”
