An AI miracle. A year after he died, Val Kilmer will appear in a new film

American actor Val Kilmer, who died in April 2025 due to pneumonia, will be in a new action-adventure film. This is the first AI “miracle” associated with cinema, which will be the responsibility of the company First Line Films, which has already announced that this is the first performance ever using generative Artificial Intelligence.

The film will be titled As Deep As The Gravein the Portuguese translation), for which Val Kilmer had been invited five years ago, but was unable to film due to illness.

Now, he will finally step in to play the role of Father Fintan, a Catholic and spiritualist Native American priest. An interpretation that ties in well with the fact that the former actor has ancestry cherokee and was an outspoken defender of Native American rights.

The filmmakers of this new work say they worked in collaboration with the former agents and with Mercedes, Val Kilmer’s daughter. “At the time he was assigned this role, Kilmer expressed that the character of Fintan touched him culturally and spiritually,” says the company that will produce the film.

First Line Films, which is based in the state of New Mexico, has not revealed the technology it will use, describing it only as “state-of-the-art generative AI technology.”

It is worth noting that in 2021, Kilmer used the Artificial Intelligence voice platform, Sonantic, to develop a version of his voice, which became very useful after the actor lost his voice due to throat cancer.

This audio was later used in the new version of Top Gun: Maverickin which Val Kilmer returned to star in the role of Iceman.

The film As Deep as the Grave uses this Kilmer voice generated by Sonantic. The film, which is in the post-production phase, is expected to be released later this year.
