Based on a story experienced very closely by the author born in 1965, as she herself states in a text published by Teatro Aberto, the play was written in an attempt to allow “perception what it is like to remain in that pain”.
According to the author, the original story is “a little different”, both “in data and facts”, from what is experienced by the characters, as the author warns. However, he adds, he felt the need to write the play to understand it.
At the beginning, the author just “needed to be sure that the story would have a happy ending”, that “the characters would find a way out”, adds Lot Vekemans in the text that brings together excerpts from a conversation by the author, published at the premiere at the Deutsches Theater Berlin, in 2013.
“For me, the play is about the loss of balance, the fact that things happen to us in life that are beyond our control, that make us completely lose our ground. How do we react in that situation?”summarizes Lot Vekemans about what he sought to explore in Poison.
