António José Seguro insists on parties making decisions regarding external bodies

António José Seguro is exercising the power of influence by placing, in the first instance, the themes he considers the most priorities. After the first meeting with Luís Montenegro, the main highlight was the search for a flexibility in the labor package for a possible agreement in social consultation, now the President of the Republic is hosting parties in meetings.

This Wednesday, it receives PSD, PS, Liberal and Free Initiative. With the two largest parties there will be a dominant theme: the delay in appointing external bodies, which continues in successive postponements. Seguro is bothered by the delay, namely almost ten months without a position in the Ombudsman’s Officein addition to wanting, naturally, for there to be definitions in the State Council to then define the team that will advise it.

Given that legislative processes of the Nationality Law saw a veto of some paragraphs by a short margin, the PS fears that the Ratton Palace will be unbalanced to the right, considering that, for greater social and political representation, there should be at least one vacancy indicated by the PS. However, Chega insists on the same barometer and for this to happen the PSD would have to settle for having just one name.

José Luís Carneiro spoke about this on Tuesday. “It would be unacceptable, and it would be unacceptable if one day we did this with the PSD”, said the PS secretary general. The Portuguese would not think it was right “if the PS, founder of fundamental freedoms and rights, stayed out”, he added.
