Argentina expels Iran’s charge d’affaires

Argentina declared Iran’s interim adviser and chargé d’affaires, Mohsen Soltani Tehrani, persona non grata and ordered to leave the country within 48 hours, The Foreign Ministry reported this Thursday.

The measure is a response to a statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry with “false, offensive and inappropriate accusations” against Argentina and its authorities, the foreign ministry explained in a statement.

Argentina “will not tolerate grievances or interference from a State that has systematically failed to comply with its international obligations and that persists in obstructing the advancement of justice”the text continues.

The Argentine government also pointed out the “persistent negative” of Iran to cooperate with justice in the case of the attack against the AMIA, as well as the failure to comply with international arrest and extradition orders.

On March 17, 1992, a van full of explosives that rammed into the Israeli embassy caused 22 deaths and more than 200 injuries. Two years later, another attack on the AMIA Jewish mutual benefit killed 85 people.

The Argentine justice system attributes both attacks to Iran, which remain unpunished.

Two days ago, Argentina declared Iran’s Islamic guard as “terrorist organization” in line with the interests of the United States and Israel, to which President Javier Milei offers his full support in the war in the Middle East.
