In a recent event the ver.di NRW in Düsseldorf became the topic Artificial intelligence (AI) and psychological stress thematised. Our research assistants, Daniela Kreklow and Dr. Bianca Zickerick, led the participants through Opportunities and risks of AI in the modern working world – with special Focus on the impact on employee mental health.
AI – a double-edged sword for the world of work
In the lecture it was made clear that AI has both relieving and burdensome effects can have on employees. On the one hand, AI can take over routine tasks and thus create freedom that employees can use for creative and focused work. On the other hand, the introduction of such technologies brings new challenges such as digital stress, constant availability and insecurity of competence.
Psychological stress caused by AI: A topic with high relevance
Die Introduction of AI often leads to uncertainty and stressas many employees initially fear being overwhelmed or feel threatened by losing their job. In order to counteract these burdens, the lecture emphasized the importance of a human-centered and participatory introduction of AI. Employees should be actively involved in the design of AI processes so that the introduction is more transparent and less burdensome.

Practical support from the KI NRW Future Center
