Artur Soares Dias responds to Mourinho and criticizes violence in Portuguese football

Violence on football fields and lack of referees

Last weekend was marked by three episodes of attacks on football referees. The cases were reported by referee Luís Godinho, through a publication on social media.

In this regard, Artur Soares Dias says that it is “necessary” for the Portuguese Football Federation to react. “A stronger, more targeted and assertive word would prevent this type of behavior from occurring, as it happens year after year”, he highlighted.

In this context, football faces a “lack of referees”a phenomenon that is not surprising, according to him. “But I ask: who wants to become a referee?” At issue is a context of aggression and violence seen across the country “weekend after weekend”, surrounding football.

“There has to be a group of people who sit at the table to value Portuguese football and the businessto find solutions” in this chapter, he added.

To the responsible entities, Soares Dias asks “courage to make changes and enforce regulations.” Another issue addressed by Artur Soares Dias concerns the exchange of accusations about alleged arbitration errors.

Questioned by journalists about the pressure exerted on referees, he himself retrieves statements from a former football player. “Ukra says that we have a new team in the Primeira Liga: Comunicados FC. And he’s absolutely right”, he highlights.

Demands “better conditions” for referee teamsbut does not see actions to make this happen. “Nobody wants to know, They only remember when the end of the League is coming or when there are attacks”vent. Without that happening, “we’re all here sleeping”, he further laments.
