The Insurance and Pensions Supervisory Authority (ASF) admitted this Wednesday, April 8, that it is difficult to provide “such an immediate” response to the almost 200,000 claims caused by bad weather, refusing to provide figures on what has already been paid.
“Taking into account the characteristics and intensity of these phenomena, it is difficult to give such an immediate response, we are talking about almost 200 thousand accidents, and, therefore, it is difficult to give a response that everyone will like”, highlighted the director of the ASF Behavioral Supervision Department, Eduardo Pereira.
Upon leaving a meeting with the President of the Republic, António José Seguro, which took place in Tomar, on the third day of the open Presidency, Eduardo Pereira explained that there are “always specific cases” to analyze once again, so that the response “is adequate and meets consumer protection”.
“In terms of expertise, we have damage assessment, almost 97% of finite products are already expert”, he informed.
He explained to journalists that in some cases regulation can be “a little slower”, due to “the availability of suppliers, materials, the availability of final reports” and when banks are involved.
“There is also a set of difficulties in providing expertise on more complex industrial installations”, he added.
According to the ASF official, “the market is doing everything it can do, taking into account the characteristics of this event”.
“And we are monitoring very closely precisely to ensure that consumer protection continues to be a priority, also with the guarantee that there is financial availability to meet commitments and costs”, he stated.
After the meeting with António José Seguro, he revealed that “the President of the Republic wanted to know, so that the ASF was following” this process.
“To also have a perception of what our vision was, the way the market is also working and discuss possible solutions for the future”, he concluded
