They are friends, professional musicians and fans of the Brazilian band that marked a generation and died in a tragic accident in March 1996. The Chuchuzinhos carry the irreverent energy of the Mamonas to embrace the hearts of those who miss them in Portugal.
The idea came from Jorge Anacleto, the guitarist, who had already participated in a similar project and decided to form the group. Along with him are keyboardist Isa Peixinho, drummer Pipo Daniel, bassist Ricardo Duarte and vocalist André Soares, the only one in the band who is not a professional musician. André sang Mamonas’ hits in karaoke and that’s how he was “discovered”.
The five friends highlight the fever that also hit Portugal in the 1990s. “It was crazy”, remembers Isa. “I was a teenager, 14 at the time, and I was no exception. And when the accident happened it was really devastating”, he adds.
Today, the Chuchuzinhos perform shows all over the country and carry out the project in parallel with other professional activities, but not just as a hobby. “We always go on stage with this sense of responsibility, despite being this comedic rock, it is also an attempt to awaken consciences, in Brazil in the 90s. More than just putting on a show, we are keeping a memory alive”affirms One.
“We do this tribute work to also show it to the little ones, my daughter is seven years old and already sings Mamonas”, says André. “My granddaughter too”, adds Ricardo. “She thinks Soap Crá Crá is funny.”
The work of Chuchuzinhos can be followed by band social media.
