Bills OL coach Aaron Kromer leaves: Replacement candidates emerging

Buffalo Bills offensive line coach Aaron Kromer is officially out.

Considered one of the best offensive line coaches in the league, Kromer had two stints in Buffalo (2015-2016, 2022-2025). His daughter Brooke shared the news of his retirement on Sunday X.

Replacing Kromer will not be easy. During his second stint in Buffalo, the team had several players earn Pro Bowl nods along the offensive line. In addition to league accolades, Kromer also deserves plenty of credit for developing the likes of Spencer Brown, O’Cyrus Torrence, Alec Anderson, Ryan Van Demark and Tylan Grable.

Finding someone who can replicate that level of success won’t be easy, but Buffalo has several options. Here are three coaches the Bills need to consider.

Austin Gund, Bills assistant OL coach

Some Bills fans are tired of the team promoting from within, but Gund is a legitimate pick for Buffalo. Gund has been working with Kromer since 2022 and has earned the respect of the players in the locker room. Given the success Buffalo’s offensive line has had under Kromer, it would make sense to consider his assistant for the job.

Dwayne Ledford, Atlanta Falcons OL coach

Ledford is widely regarded as one of the best offensive line coaches in the league. It happens to be expected to be available. While many coaches would likely retain Ledford based on the success Atlanta has had with their offensive game, new head coach Kevin Stefanski is reportedly bringing Bill Callahan, another top OL coach, with him to the Falcons.

In addition to serving as the Falcons’ offensive line coach, Ledford was also their run game coordinator.

In his time in Atlanta, Ledford was instrumental in helping Chris Ledstrom become an All-Pro, as well as the development of center Ryan Neuzil and guard Matthew Bergeron.

Zak Kromer, Los Angeles Rams assistant OL coach

Buffalo should also consider replacing Kromer with another Kromer. Aaron’s son Zak coached the last 10 NFL seasons with the Los Angeles Rams. He is currently the team’s assistant offensive line coach.

Kromer is considered an up-and-coming coach in the league and was interviewed by the Jaguars for their offensive line coaching vacancy last season.

Kromer was previously with the Bills in 2016 as an assistant coach at the entry level.
