German car manufacturer BMW has launched a campaign to recall 180,000 vehicles in China due to a potential breakdown that poses a risk of fire, the Chinese market regulator said.
The recall concerns 133,849 vehicles produced in the Asian country and 45,678 imported ones, manufactured in different periods between 2022 and 2025, the State Administration for Market Regulation said in a statement.
“The vehicles in question have a fault related to the poor positioning of the electrical harness of the front passenger compartment air conditioning system, during the replacement of the air filter, this fault can cause the harness to deteriorate”, he stated.
“In extreme cases, a short circuit may occur, posing a fire risk,” reads a statement.
BMW entities in China will carry out free inspection and repositioning of this component in vehicles covered by the recall and will replace it in case of damage, according to the statement.
