Bolsonaro discharged from hospital, goes back to house arrest
Bolsonaro was confirmed to have early-stage skin cancer, which will require regular monitoring
Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was discharged on Wednesday from the hospital after being admitted the day before for kidney problems, dehydration, and low blood pressure. Doctors also revealed that two skin lesions removed during a procedure on Sunday tested positive for an early-stage squamous cell carcinoma, a type of skin cancer.
Bolsonaro’s physicians stated that the cancer does not require immediate treatment but will need periodic evaluations. They also clarified that his recent health issues were not related to the stabbing he suffered in 2018.
There has been a partial improvement after hydration and drug treatment, the latest medical report stated.
The former head of State, who was recently sentenced to 27 years in prison for his involvement in a coup attempt, has returned to his residence, where he is under house arrest.
Bolsonaro was sentenced to more than 27 years in prison for his involvement in the coup plan beginning in 2022 and resulting in the Jan. 8, 2023, with his supporters storming the country’s institutions.
Bolsonaro’s visits to the hospital have been a constant in recent years, many of them related to the aftermath of the stabbing he suffered in 2018 during the election campaign that led him to the Alvorada Palace.
Last Sunday, he was treated for a series of skin lesions stemming from squamous cell carcinoma in situ in two of the eight lesions removed. In other words, he has early-stage skin cancer, according to Doctor Claudio Birolini.
It is not the simplest cancer, but it is not one of the most aggressive either, the specialist also pointed out. He added that Bolsonaro, 70, who was hospitalized with persistent anemia and impaired kidney function, has recovered from those problems, which caused him to vomit, feel dizzy, and have low blood pressure.
