O The number of Brazilian brands operating in Portugal through franchising has grown 68% in the last five yearsrising from 41 in 2020 to 69 in 2024, according to the Portuguese Franchising Association (APF).

This increase reflects the growth of the sector and the diversification of areas of activity, which include health, education, hotels and food.

Cristina Matos, general secretary of the APF, states that “the increase in the number of Brazilian franchisees in Portugal is a natural reflection of the maturity of Brazilian franchising and the affinity between the two markets. Portugal is a strategic destination for the internationalization of brands”.

The next edition of Expofranchise, which will take place on the 17th and 18th of October in Lisbon, will feature a Brazil Pavilion, where eight new Brazilian brands will be present. Among them, Corpo Bueno, Lave & Peça and Doutor Sofá stand out. The event, which will have free entry upon registration, will also recognize brands with APF Seals of Excellence, based on franchisee satisfaction.

Portugal leads Europe in franchise density, with 2,991 units per million inhabitants, and the sector represents 8% of national GDPgenerating 137,578 direct jobs.

Additionally, Expofranchise 2025 will launch the APF Masterclass, a course for expansion directors and franchisees, and introduce Women Global Franchise (WGF), a community dedicated to supporting women entrepreneurs. APF will also launch an official application for the event, which will act as a digital guide.

The event promises to be a strategic platform for businesspeople and entrepreneurs, offering networking and learning opportunities in a growing market.
