Brazilian Supreme Court authorizes house arrest for 90 days for Bolsonaro

The Federal Supreme Court of Brazil authorized this Tuesday, March 24, house arrest for 90 days for former president Jair Bolsonaro, sentenced to more than 27 years in prison.

“After this period, the presence of the necessary requirements for the maintenance of humanitarian house arrest will be re-analyzed, including medical expertise if necessary”reads the decision of judge Alexandre de Moraes, who followed the Public Ministry’s request, after several appeals from the former president’s defense.

Former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro left the intensive care unit on Monday night and was transferred to a hospital room in Brasília, where he has been hospitalized since March 13 after suffering pneumonia resulting from a bronchoaspiration while sleeping in his cell at the Papuda military penitentiary.
