Carlos Queiroz leaves Oman national team by mutual agreement after eight months

Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz left command of the Oman football team, having terminated his contract by mutual agreement with the federation of that country, eight months after taking officehe announced. The announcement was made this morning, March 22nd.

“I want to express my deep gratitude to the players, the federation and the passionate people for the honor and privilege of having served the Oman national team. I extend my gratitude to the president and vice-president of the federation for their trust and leadership, and for the respectful and friendly way in which we ended our call by mutual agreement”, informed the coach, on his social networks.

Queiroz, 73 years old, had taken command of the Arab team in July last year, having played four matches, two of which were in the Asian qualifying phase for the 2026 World Cupin which the Omanis failed both to directly count and to be present in the play-off intercontinental.

“Together with the players and staff, we did our best, trying to bring success, honor and prestige to the country. I maintain confidence and firmly believe that the Oman national team will have a bright and promising future”, published the coach, who was linked to the Oman federation until the summer of this year.

In more than three decades of a career that began in 1991, Oman was the eighth team that Queiroz coachedthen United Arab Emirates (1999), South Africa (2000 to 2001), Colombia (2019 to 2020), Portugal (1991 to 1993 and 2008 to 2010), Iran (2011 to 2019 and 2022), Egypt (2021 to 2022) and Qatar (2023).

At club level, he was Alex Ferguson’s assistant at Manchester United and coached Sporting, New York/New Jersey MetroStars (United States), current New York Red Bulls, Nagoya Grampus (Japan) and Real Madrid as seniors. The highlight of his career was winning two Under-20 World Cups, then as coach of the top flight in Portugal.
