Cascais hosts crucial stage of The Ocean Race 2027, reinforcing Portugal in world sailing

The Ocean Race returns to Portugal in 2027, with Cascais taking on a prominent role in the 15th edition of one of the most demanding sailing competitions in the world. The village will receive, at the end of May that year, the arrival of a transatlantic stage starting in St. Pete–Clearwater, Florida (United States), in a route of around 4,500 nautical miles across the Atlantic.

The 2027 edition begins on January 17th, in Alicante (Spain), maintaining the tradition of departure from that port. The race will then head to the southern hemisphere, with an inaugural stage of historic dimension to Auckland (New Zealand), before heading to Itajaí (Brazil). This is followed by the connection to the United States and, subsequently, the Atlantic crossing that culminates in Cascais, reinforcing Portugal’s centrality in the major international ocean sailing routes. The competition ends in the Red Sea, in AMAALA, Saudi Arabia.
