CDS-PP will hold Congress in Alcobaça on May 16th and 17th

The XXXII Congress of the CDS-PP was scheduled for the 16th and 17th of May and will take place at Panorama – Multiuso in Alcobaçain a choice that, according to centrists, “reflects the party’s intention to give priority to this region of the country, recently affected by adverse weather phenomena”.

This municipality in the Leiria district was one of those that suffered the effects of the storm Kristin and other extreme phenomena experienced in Portugal at the beginning of this year. In this sense, the CDS-PP argues that the choice of Alcobaça “affirms an option consistent with its humanist, personalist and municipalist matrix, valuing the role of local communities in the construction of a national project”.

In the case of an elective congress, the national leadership led by Nuno Melo, current Minister of National Defense, will seek re-election, and is unlikely to face any opposition. But over the two days of work, “the CDS-PP’s main political guidelines for the future” will also be debated.

In addition to being part of the Government of Luís Montenegro, with Nuno Melo and the Secretaries of State Telmo Correia (Internal Administration) and Álvaro Castelo Branco (Defense), the CDS-PP is also in the regional governments of the Azores and Madeira and in municipal executives led by social democrats, in municipalities such as Lisbon, Porto, Cascais, Vila Nova de Gaia, Braga and Aveiro. Outside of these coalitions, in the last local elections he maintained the six chamber presidencies he held (Ponte de LIma, Albergaria-a-Velha, Oliveira do Bairro, Vale de Cambra, Santana and Velas).
