Chega requested a recount of the vote in the municipal elections in Montijo due to alleged “inconsistencies in the validation of votes”, revealed this Wednesday, October 15th, the head of that party’s list in the elections for the Montijo Chamber, Nuno Valente.

“The main reason for the recount request was the detection of several inconsistencies in the validation of votes at the Montijo Court”Nuno Valente told the Lusa agency .

The head of Chega’s list in last Sunday’s elections admitted, however, that the fact that Chega lost the elections in the Pegões Parish Council by a narrow margin of ten votes also contributed to the request for a recount.

The Montijo com Visão e Coração (MVC) movement, which won the elections for the Montijo City Council on Sunday, ensuring the presidency of the municipality by the socialist dissident Fernando Caria, also won the elections for the Parish Council of Pegões, with a total of 495 votes, just ten more than Chega, which came second with 485 votes.

In the elections for the Montijo City Council, in the district of Setúbal, the MVC won with a total of 6,452 votes (27.48%), 631 more votes than Chega, which was second with 5,821 votes (24.79%)

A source from the Office of the Presidency of Montijo City Council confirmed to the Lusa agency that the recount of votes began today and should be resumed on Thursday.
