The Colombian cartoonist Elena Ospinaa reference of illustration and graphic expression in the world, will be honored during the La Catrina Cartoon Tribute 2025 during the International Meeting of Caricature and Comics (EICH) within the framework of the International Book Fair (FIL) from Guadalajara.

This was announced by Dr. Isabel López Pérez, rector of the University Center of Art, Architecture and Design (CUAAD), who stated that “through her work, Elena Ospina addresses topics such as gender equality, human rights, freedom of expression and ecology“.
“In addition, he is part of different groups and associations that promote graphic art around the world, such as Cartooning for Peacein France; Cartoon Movement; FECO Spain y CArton Clubamong others,” he added.

For her part, the cartoonist who also started working at the newspaper The Spectator from Colombia, said she was happy and surprised, although she stated that this tribute represents for her a great responsibility to continue creating and sharing her images with the world, while maintaining her fight for human rightsthe pazthe equality and the care for the environment.
“In these times of political crisis, Artists have the function of communicatingand it is important that, through caricature, literature and all the arts, we continue to promote the critical thinking of those who see us.
“Without a doubt, I feel very happy, I know that Mexico is a place that has been characterized by having great cartoonists and the FIL It is one of the largest spaces to spread this artistic work; Without a doubt, we need more spaces like the EICH,” he continued.
In recognition, Elena Ospina will receive a bronze sculpture, known as “La Catrina”, which reproduces a drawing by Sergio Aragonésa version that draws, in turn, from the one created by Jose Guadalupe Posada. The ceremony will take place on December 6 in the Juan Rulfo Hall of Expo Guadalajara, at 1:00 p.m.
