Cow is created for cremation and transfer of Brazilian victim of being run over in Portugal

An online crowdfunding was created to pay for the cremation and transfer of the ashes of Brazilian Luana Mile Assis Silva Champagne. The immigrant died after being run over in Portugal on February 27th. Family and friends are racing against time to release the body before it is buried as a pauper, as required by Brazilian law.

“Away from home, the family faces not only the pain of this irreparable loss, but also an urgent situation: the body is in the IML, and there is a risk that, if the necessary measures are not taken within the deadline, Luana will be buried as a pauper”, appears in the text of the crowdfunding. Luana is from Ilhéus, in the state of Bahia.

The kitty was created by Brazilian lawyer Kissila Valle, who is taking care of the procedures on behalf of the victim’s family. The goal is to raise 4,500 euros.

“Their family members, who live in Ilhéus (Bahia), are deeply shaken and do not have the financial means to bear the necessary costs at this difficult time”, says the text. The victim was hospitalized after being run over, but did not survive.

The family chose to cremate the body as it was a more affordable alternative. Even without the body, the objective is to “guarantee a dignified farewell with your loved ones”.

The amount raised will be used to cover legal procedures and documentation, administrative fees, funeral and cremation services, in addition to the urn and preparation of the ashes. Finally, the ashes will be transported internationally, as well as transferred from Salvador to Ilhéus, in Bahia.

“Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a huge difference at this difficult time. If you are unable to help financially, we ask that you share this campaign so that it reaches more people. Let’s together ensure that Luana has a dignified farewell and can return to her country of origin, with her family”, the text also highlights. The link for donations is here.
