In Northern Ireland, more than half of families consume a petroleum derivative intended for heating of housing. This is transported in trucks and, as it is an expensive resource, it has always attracted the attention of thieves. Now, risks increase, due to rising prices.
There is no discreet way to do this. Huge trucks travel the roads to deliver that energy product to families’ homes. They use it to cope with the harsh climate, especially in rural areas. This is what happens in 62% of homes in that country and in 80% of those located in rural areasfar from cities.
This is deposited in storage tanks, often under the watchful eye of criminals, who manage to empty those deposits and escape within minutes.
This is according to Gary McCartney, regional director of Countryside Alliance Ireland, which seeks to give a voice to those living in rural areas of the country. “Rural houses and dwellings are increasingly targeted by thieves”he guarantees, quoted by the British newspaper The Guardian.
He himself advises anyone who lives there to “stay vigilant” in order to avoid major problems. It’s just that a robbery like that can result in an expense of thousands of poundsin addition to damage to equipment and risks to nature.
