Spanish international Dani Olmo, Barcelona’s player, has a worrying medical record with injuries, as confirmed by the recent injury he suffered while in his country’s national team camp, which led to him being excluded and prevented from playing against Georgia and Bulgaria in the European qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

Olmo’s new calf injury raised doubts about the player’s physical readiness, especially since it was the player’s 11th injury in the last four seasons, according to what the Spanish newspaper “Marca” reported.

Dani Olmo suffers from injuries

The newspaper confirmed that Olmo will miss at least 4 matches from Barcelona, adding to the 17 other matches in which he missed the club and the national team last season for various physical reasons.

She explained, “Olmo suffered a repeated series of muscle injuries over the last seasons, including tears in the muscle fibers, an injury to the lateral ligament in his knee, and a shoulder surgery.”

These injuries had a negative impact on Olmo’s technical performance and prevented him from maintaining the continuity that any player needs over the course of an entire season.

During the last season (2024-2025), Olmo did not participate in 17 matches out of a possible 67 with Barcelona and the Spanish national team, or 25.37% of the total matches, at a rate of approximately one match out of every 4 in a season that was the best for Olmo in terms of “physical safety.”

The number of matches that Olmo missed in the last four seasons with the clubs (Leipzig and Barcelona) and the Spanish national team:

  • He missed 15 matches in the 2021-2022 season with Leipzig and the national team, representing 29% of the total matches.
  • He missed 24 matches with Leipzig and the national team in the 2022-2023 season, by 40%.
  • He missed 25 matches with Leipzig and the national team in the 2023-2024 season, a rate of 41%.
  • He missed 17 matches with Barcelona and the national team in the 2024-2025 season, or 25%.

The newspaper noted that the strange thing about these injuries is the presence of what it described as “a recurring temporal pattern that goes beyond the physical aspect, as the player was injured in recent seasons in the period between September and October more than in the rest of the stages of the season.”

Because of these combined injuries, Olmo was absent from the field for 377 days, beginning a “new battle with injuries” at a time when Barcelona and the player aim to return to the field during the Spanish League Clasico against Real Madrid, which is scheduled for Sunday, October 26, a return that is very “very doubtful.”
