Daniel Adrião, four times candidate for general secretary of the Socialist Party, criticizes the lack of possibility to participate in Tuesday’s PS National Political Commission, as well as the weekend meeting in Penafiel that will decide the presidential candidate.
“As you know, I contested the accusation and I have not yet been notified of any decision by the National Jurisdiction Commission. This means that there is still no sentence and that is why I have not yet been expelled. However, I was not summoned to the meeting of the National Political Commission, which took place nor was I summoned to the meeting of the National Commission”, he points out to Diário de Notícias in a tone of regret.
Adrião declared in September that he wanted to be a candidate for the Parish Council of São Vicente. Initially, everything seemed to indicate that this would happen, then with Pedro Nuno Santos. But the council appointed André Biveti, now president-elect.
According to the CNJ, the fact of “joining a list contrary to that presented by the PS or the guidelines defined by the party’s competent bodies” is considered a “disciplinary infraction, qualified as serious misconduct”, thus giving the right to expulsion.
According to the statutes, Daniel Adrião had ten days to contest the decision, having delivered his defense on Friday, October 3rd. However, the CNJ states that as it is “supported by documentary evidence”, any appeal is seen as “useless and dilatory” as it does not “substantiate the invocation of the falsity of the evidence document”. Thus, he justifies the fact that he was not summoned to the party’s maximum meetings. It will be, as far as DN was able to know, the only case between national leaders.
Even so, there are several activists, who are undergoing processes of disaffiliation and expulsion for having run as independent candidates and against the will of the party.
