Mexico City (CDMX) is preparing to celebrate one of its most anticipated traditions in this part of the year: the Monumental Alebrijes Parade, which is part of the activities of the Day of the Dead 2025. The event, organized by the Museum of Popular Art (MAP), will bring together the work of artisans from all over the country who will give life to fantastic creatures full of color, ingenuity and symbolism.

When and at what time will the 2025 Monumental Alebrijes Parade be?
The parade will take place on Saturday, October 18, starting at 12:00 p.m.with a route that will start from the capital’s Zócalo and will culminate at the Angel of Independence. This tour will pass through some of the main avenues of the Historic Center and Paseo de la Reforma, including 5 de Mayo, Eje Central, Juárez Avenue and Reforma.
What will the parade route be?
The tour will begin on the esplanade of the CDMX Zócalowhere the artisans will begin to set up shop at dawn. Subsequently, the imposing cardboard figures will advance along 5 de Mayo Street, continue along Eje Central, then along Juárez Avenue and finally along Paseo de la Reforma until they reach the Ángel de la Independencia, the end point of the journey.

Who and what will be exhibited in the parade on the occasion of the Day of the Dead 2025?
According to the director of the MAP, Walther Boelsterly, more than 200 monumental pieces will be part of the parade, with the participation of workshops and artisans from Mexico City, Guanajuato, Hidalgo, Morelos, Puebla, Quintana Roo, San Luis Potosí, Tabasco and Tlaxcala.
After the tour, the alebrijes will remain on display from October 18 to November 9 on the north and south sidewalks of Paseo de la Reforma, between the Ángel de la Independencia and Lieja Street, becoming an open-air gallery for all lovers of these traditions.
According to information from The Universalthe event will have medical, logistical and security support, with the collaboration of the Boy Scouts, the Rotary Club Roma, firefighters, the CDMX Citizen Security Secretariat and more than 400 university volunteers. Tents will be installed in the Zócalo for medical services, coordination and rest of the participants.
