Decision in the trial of a minor accused of killing his mother in Vagos will be known on April 17

The Family and Minors Court of Aveiro scheduled for April 17th, at 10 am, the reading of the judgment of the trial of the minor accused of killing his mother in Vagos, in October 2025.

The 14-year-old boy is being tried behind closed doors, as part of an Educational Tutelary Process, initiated due to the commission of facts that substantiate a crime of qualified homicide.

In the final arguments that took place on the morning of this Friday, April 10, the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) requested that the young man be applied to the educational protective measure of confinement in an educational center, in a closed regime, for a period of three years, which corresponds to the most serious measure.

The minor’s defense lawyer left the hearing room without speaking to journalists.

The trial takes place behind closed doors, as publicity has been excluded, which means that the hearings take place without the presence of the public or the media, except for the reading of the decision, which will be public.

The minor, who is serving a precautionary custody order in a closed educational center, is being judged by a collective court, composed of a career judge and two social judges (citizens, without specific legal training, appointed to assist legal judges in family and juvenile courts).

Once the hearing is over, the court gathers to decide, with the decision being taken by majority, with the social judges voting first, in ascending order of age, and, at the end, the presiding judge, who has the casting vote and makes the decision.

The case dates back to October 21, 2025, when the then councilor of the Chamber of Vagos Susana Gravato was hit by a gunshot, inside her home, in Gafanha da Vagueira, in that municipality in the district of Aveiro.

The victim was found by her husband who alerted the firefighters. Despite the resuscitation maneuvers carried out, death was declared at the scene by the Emergency and Resuscitation Medical Vehicle team.

Less than 24 hours after the crime, the Judicial Police (PJ) announced that it had identified the councilor’s son as the only suspect in his mother’s death.
