Choice of Lusitânia
Fabcaro says that “I wanted a sunny, bright album, in a not-too-distant country that felt like a vacation. And, therefore, Lusitânia prevailed quickly. I had been there several times on vacation and always loved it! The people are very warm”, says the author of the story about choosing this corner by the sea as the new destination for Asterix and Obelix’s travels.
“I went to Portugal a few years ago and I really liked the country. I love designing travel albums. I delight in reproducing the picturesque landscapes and adding small details specific to the culture of the country visited – and that is something that is not lacking in Portugal!”adds Didier Conrad.
In the same press release, the Portuguese Ambassador to France, Francisco Ribeiro de Menezes, also spoke about this new adventure. “Lusitânia welcomes its friends Astérix and Obélix with open arms. We’ve been waiting for them for a long time. Just like the irreducible Gauls, the Lusitanians also had to fight for their freedom and the preservation of their identity, forged in the face of the same ocean and the same empire”.
Furthermore, the diplomat highlights, “Lusitanians and Gauls share countless characteristics – good cuisine, patriotism, poetry and songs, travel and discoveries”.
Francisco Ribeiro de Menezes says he is waiting “impatiently” to find out “what Astérix and Obélix, together with little Ideiafix, will do in our land, that is, in Lusitânia”.
Fabcaro and Didier Conrad will be in Portugal on October 27th for the presentation of Asterix in Lusitania.
